In the past, Cubs fans were frenzied simply by a Cubs playoff appearance. That was the past. Now, after winning the World Series a year ago, fans and the city are expecting greatness once again. Obviously, easier said than done. However, this Cubs team is special in its own aspects and will repeat as World Series champions in 2017. The Cubs are the best team in the MLB. Sure, their regular season record doesn’t reflect that, but they have all the pieces to put together a playoff run again. The Cubs have the offense that can put up runs in clutch situations as seen last year throughout the playoffs. They bring back four of their starting pitchers from last year’s team and went out and acquired closer Wade Davis to come out of the bullpen and finish games. The …show more content…
For the one-hundred eight seasons prior, the Cubs have been referred to as “The Loveable Losers”. Baseball fans were just used to the Cubs coming up short and many times Cubs fans became fed up hearing this. As a result, the fans put a lot of pressure on their Cubs. One example comes from 2003 in which the Cubs were five outs away from advancing to the World Series. In the eighth inning of game six, after the infamous Steve Bartman incident occurred, the Cubs committed two errors allowing the opposing Marlins to score eight runs in the inning and win the game, and ultimately the series. The pressure from the endlessly suffering fan base got the best of the Cubs. After winning last year, that pressure no longer exists. Of course, Cubs fans want to see the Cubs repeat. However, we are aware that it is a very tough feat, and if the Cubs do not accomplish it, there will only be one year of disappointment to dwell upon, as opposed to one hundred and
