The long awaited start of the NHL season is here, and what better matchup to start off with than New York Range vs. the Chicago Blackhawks.
This is the 89th season in the National Hockey league for then Rangers, and a clash between another original 6 team in the Blackhawks. For the Rangers, this is the eighth straight season they have started on the road.
This matchup is going to be a close battle, as both team won a game each last season by the score of 1-0.
These two teams are meeting up for the 584th time in regular season play, and it is Chicago with a slight advantage over the Rangers with a record of 244-239-98-2 all-time.

However, this visit for Raanta will not bring back good old memories, in fact the opposite. Raanta was bumped down to the Blackhawks third goalie last season after the emergence of Scott Darling, and didn’t take kind to it.
It was reported that Raanta came out saying he was praying with his fingers crossed that Nashville would sweep the Hawks in last season playoffs so he can go home to Finland sooner.
To add insult to injury, Raanta found out from a friend that his name did not make it on the Stanley Cup, but the retired Dan Carcillo’s and the used every now and then defenseman Jaom Nordstrom had a petition go to the NHL through the Hawks, and their names were added to the cup.
Dating back to November 16, 2003 the Rangers have picked up at least 1 point in ten of the last 13 meetings against the Hawk, going 7-3-1-2 during the time period.
The Blackhawks will also be dressing to former Rangers in their lineup tonight as Artem Anisimov and Michael Rozsival are on the opening night roster.
