he movie the group decided on is called Dead Silence, and the chosen clip is when the main character of the film, Jamie, was at a funeral burying his dead wife, Lisa. His wife was killed by a possessed ventriloquist doll named Billy. The main cast of the movie are in attendance, Jamie being desperate for answers stumbles across the Billy’s owner’s grave, Mary Shaw. In the funeral scene we see a good example of Chiaroscuro Lighting in Zettl’s book. All the people are wearing dark clothes and you mainly see selective illumination in the hands, partially to the faces. The lighting also has key light and back light, which helps to illuminate the character Jamie’s face, leaving only partially shadows on his eyes as he looks down. The key light and back light also helps to separate the character character in the background as he is lost in grieve. The setting has a light/dark …show more content…
The red roses really help to draw the audience's attention to funeral casket under the flowers. Red was the predominate color of the movie so in this scene, the color symbolism of red could be used to show how the wife dead a violent death. It can also symbolize hot passion and love, as Jamie loved his wife dearly. However, it could also be used for anger as Jamie is still reeling from her death and is determined to find the answers to her murder. Everyone at the funeral is wearing black, which can symbolize grief, depression and death in this scene. Red, being the main color is actually the most saturated, while everything else including the background are desaturated. According to Zettl’s book, when colors are desaturated it’s to make the scene more emotionally accessible. The desaturation in this scene helps us to see the scene as it is and not be too distracted by the color. It aids to bring out the emotion of the character Jaime so e really feel his
