The 19th century of China opened with a broad reform of institutions, particularly in the military system. As a result, the revolution occurs and “followed by the breakup of China as the leaders of autonomous armies fought for power” (Dreyer 1). Kuomintang Party stood against the Communist Party and waged a massive civil war mainly in the Northeast part of China, “ending only with the victory of communists on the mainland in 1949” (Dreyer 1). He was born in October 31, 1887 and died in 1975 in Taiwan. His wife Soong Mei-ling, who was Sun’s sister-in-law, was also a competent woman who later helped build up the relationship between China and the United States. Before Chiang became the leader of the Nationalist Party, he also controlled over the Warlords, which is groups of badly equipped and badly trained armies. As a savvy military leader, Chiang stayed on top of the rival warlords until he willingly joined the team of Sun’s Nationalist Party.
