I am employed in the healthcare field as an anesthesia technician and it is very demanding and stressful position Having to deal with doctors, nurses, and relatives taught me a valuable lesson in staying composed, immune from the verbal abuses from some patient’ s relatives and constant orders from physicians whose patience is lacking. This work has allowed me to advance my communication and interpersonal skills with both patients and the ambulance crew; as first responder I calm the patients and work with them to gain an understanding of their presenting complaint; this information is then relayed along with my observations to the ambulance crew when they arrive. As a CFR, I’ve also had the opportunity to join paramedics on observer shifts. This has given me an insight into their methods of practice and the challenges currently faced by paramedics, such as the lack of proper mental health support. This often leaves many cases for the ambulance…

Almost four years ago, I entered Clackamas High School as a confused, shy, awkward freshman. Soon after entering the hallways of this school, I was assigned to a Freshman Assurance group and met with the group leaders. My group leaders were vivacious seniors, who were condescending and gave very little advice on high school. I felt a little intimidated by them, and the activities that they led made most of the freshmen in our group uncomfortable. They told us about their craziest stories and about the teachers who weren't of the most pleasant experience.…

From maintaining a stable academic status to being more involved in school, but the one experience that stood out the most in my junior year was when I had joined Tech crew. From the moment I had picked up the paper from the vice president of Tech crew during club rush, which was Jesus Martinez, I had this urge of momentum and excitement about being involved more in Godinez and being a part of Tech crew was the perfect way to demonstrate that.…

In these situations, calm strength combined with compassion is the most effective strategy. Likewise, public events at WCVE and my after-school/weekend jobs have often presented me with equally unanticipated circumstances, such as having only myself to rely on, completing unfamiliar tasks with time constraints, or needing to adopt innovative angles in communicating with someone. On occasions when a solution is not immediately possible, I assure whomever I am working with that I will keep striving, and then unearth a way to solve the problem…
