Exterior Styling of the 1965 Impala
If you parked a 1965 model next to [a 1964 Chevrolet Impala] you'll see the car looks completely different from the ground up. They moved the fourth generation cars from the B body platform to the all new perimeter X frame. Although the wheel based remained at 119 inches the automobile gained 4 inches in overall length. The glass and sheet metal distanced itself from the flat and square shapes of the previous generation.
The 65 models now took on more of the rounded Coke bottle styling popular in the mid-60s. They laid the front windshield back to provide a more aerodynamic look. The rear glass took on more of a fastback design. Even the quarter windows and rear vent glass took on a more rounded shape, enhancing the pillar less design. Chevrolet now offered 14 different exterior paint colors and the choice of nine different interior colors. This allowed for a unique level of customization for those willing to wait on a special order. Nevertheless, many found what they wanted on hand in dealership
