Chelsey Sullenberger was born in Denison, Texas on January 23, 1951. His main college education came from the US Air Force Academy when he enrolled in 1969, which he graduated as an officer in 1973 from with a Bachelor’s degree in science. He also hold a master’s degree from a couple other colleges, so to say the least, he worked hard in school. He had been so for about 29 years. It wasn’t until flight 1549 on January 15, 2009, that his life would change in just a few quick heroic moments. During the seemingly normal flight, something flew into the path of the passenger plane. Just like that a large flock of Canadian Geese sent the plane on a downwards path. Luckily, Chesley was able to think fast and safely land the massive plane in the Hudson River just before speaking over the intercom “Brace for impact”. Though the plane sunk, all 155 passengers survived, most of them completely uninjured, and those who were injured, had very minor injuries. Chesley was very soon recognized as a hero and was even sent a phone call by the president at the time, George W Bush, as well as the president elect, Barack H Obama. Chesley was also an honored guest at Obama’s inauguration speech. “In 2009, HarperCollins published Sullenberger's memoir, Highest Duty: My Search for What Really Matters. Sully, a movie about Sullenberger and his heroics on the Hudson River, directed by Clint Eastwood and starring Tom Hanks in the title role, was released in September 2016.” A year after all this, the heroic pilot retired after 3 decades of commercial flights and continued focusing on his business in flight safety
