Wild is filled with ups and downs Cheryl Strayed struggle with in her early adulthood. Strayed never really had life easy but she never complained, she always accepted life for what it was and was content with that. After struggling with much adversity in her young life, Strayed decided to hike the PCT (Pacific Crest Trail). The Pacific crest trail is a trail full of rough, jagged, mountainous terrain that is thousands of miles long. Strayed has never hiked or done anything of the sort before her decision to hike the PCT. Cheryl Strayed otherwise known as “Queen of the PCT” is now sharing her story with everyone all over the world, and we love it.

Strayed had such a strong bond with her other which made it difficult to let her go. At some point on the trail it snowed for a few days, and it was a really tough time for Cheryl. “Come back,” I called lightly, and then suddenly shouted, “MOM! MOM! MOM! MOM!” I didn’t know the word was going to come out of my mouth until it did.”(Cheryl Strayed “Wild” page 144). On this page Cheryl finally realizes she had not let go of her mother. Strayed realized she had bottled up a mass of deep dark emotions that she finally let loose. We took long walks and picked berries and made love. I can do this, I thought. I could only be who it seemed I had to be. But again I was wrong. I could only be who it seemed I had to be.”(Cheryl Strayed “Wild” page 35). At this point Strayed’s relationship with her husband Paul already began to deteriorate; to a point of no return.
Shortly after Strayed was very promiscuous and began to fornicate with random guys and things did not go well for her. Strayed even tried drugs and she realized this just was not who she was. Although Strayed had done all of these things that are frowned upon, she has the courage to acknowledge the fact that she did those things and the courage to know she needed to do those things to propel herself forward and become a better woman.
“When I pulled on the pockets zipper, Monster toppled over onto my boots, clipping the left one in such a way that it leapt into the air as if I’d thrown it. I watched it bounce--- it was lightning fast and in slow motion all at once---- and then I watched it tumble over the edge of the mountain and down into the trees without a sound.
