Finding the Best Picker
There are three different types of cherry picker lifts: non-powered, self-propelled, and vehicle mounted lifts. The first type have no means of propulsion and must be "pushed" into place, either via hand or by an appropriate moving vehicle.
Self-propelled lifts are road legal vehicles with a cherry picker arm. Think of electric line repair trucks. Vehicle mounted lifts are usually the largest types and are mounted to a van or a truck, designed specifically for the job.

Larger pickers with longer boom arms will cost more than shorter ones. Consider the height from which you want to film carefully before choosing.
However, you may also have to pay for the delivery and pickup of the picker, so that will add at least $100 to the bill. A budget of $500-$700 is appropriate for a typical day of filming with a cherry picker.
Getting Used to the Controls
Once you have chosen a cherry picker, it's a good idea to get used to the controls. The control panel will vary depending on the truck, but it should have fairly simple controls for moving the arm up, down, left to right, and extending and compressing its length. Take time manipulating these controls, performing the following routines:
