Some spears were made entirely of hardwood; the points sharpened by hand and then hardened in a fire (Cherokee Nation). Spear points were made in the same way; they were just larger in size and shaped a bit differently. The spear predates the bow and arrow by hundreds of years and is one of the oldest weapons used by the Cherokee people.
Arrowheads were made from various kinds of stone but flint was considered the
