It was a normal day around 10:00 A.M. when I had the first soccer game of the season. The air was cool with crisp morning dew across the grass. We were going against the C.S.L Stingrays (Chesapeake Soccer League). It was different now, instead of 7 players on the field it was 11 players, instead of a smaller field it was bigger, along with the field, the goals were also larger. With this much people and this big of a field, you couldn’t dribble a ball all the way down and score. This is what I didn’t know.
The game had started and the other team had kickoff, we stood back and waited until they touched the ball. When they did we ran for it and got the ball back, it seemed as no one on our team knew we would have to pass more and dribble less.

Half time was over and we got back into positions, we had kickoff and gave a through ball to our right mid. He went past a couple defenders then passed it back to our right defender. Then he crossed it and someone shot it, the score was 2-1. We were still losing though. The other team used the same tactic as us for the kickoff and shot but our goalkeeper saved it. He threw it out to our left defender and he passed it up to a center mid. The center mid got past a defender then gave our forward a through ball. He trapped the ball, dribbled some, then shot it, the score was now 2-2!
The game was finally over a hour later and the final score was 5-2. We won and were 1st in the league at the time. We understood that the game didn’t just change our ranking, it changed our understanding of soccer. We now knew that alone you can get the job done but while working with others you can accomplish many great things. We learned that when you think and work as a team you can go beyond the highest limits of someone working by

My experiences that night were not forgotten, but today I couldn’t even tell you if we won the game that night. The lessons I learned that night weren’t about winning and losing, I had done plenty of that already in my life.…
