A year ago, my 40-year-old aunt passed away after a long battle with various forms of cancer. During her treatment, she found that often the chemotherapy’s symptoms were more painful than those of cancer. She was constantly cold, unrelenting dry skin, and chronic metallic taste. After her death, I recognized that nobody should have to struggle with chemotherapy symptoms like my aunt. For this reason, I began ChemoComforts Baskets, a 501(c)(3) that creates and delivers bags full of care items such as lotion, ginger chews, and hand warmers to patients at the UC Denver Infusion Center.
Thus far, we have delivered 250 bags to patients and raised over ten thousand dollars in grants and in-kind donations in the past year. This includes two five hundred dollar grants from Walmart, products from Celestial Seasonings, Chimes Ginger Chews, and Fullwell Heath, item drives, and over nine hundred dollars in crowdfunding. Currently, we are delivering twenty baskets a month for two different hospitals.
We have received many letters of appreciation from the recipients of these baskets and the nurses

Some events we have held include a job fair, which helped youth in Centennial find places of work for the summer, the National Alliance on Mental Illness walk, for which we raised over two hundred dollars, an Earth Day celebration to promote healthy environmental habits, and the Dog Days event, in which the community of Centennial comes together to bond over man’s best friend. These events have connected the citizens of Centennial over various issues and helped make Centennial a better place to live. Similarly, my Youth Commission was invited to and attended a series of discussions on suicide and harassment. From these discussions, we created a community value statement that is now permanently ingrained into

My elementary school,Creek View Elementary, hosts a fundraiser called “ The Basket Raffle”. Surprisingly, I remember how lively and successful the events were every year. Each class was assigned a theme that would help guide families with knowing exactly what items to donate in order to create the classes’ basket. The PTA would assemble all the items from each class in gigantic gift baskets for the highly anticipated raffle. Parents and students that desired to win the baskets had to buy tickets to put in the smaller baskets designated for choosing the winners.…

People like to state that homelessness is a result of laziness and all they need to do is get a job. I never had to worry about whether I was going to have food on the table or a place to sleep. I have been fortunate enough to live a life where I have everything I need to live comfortably.…

Targeting solid tumors - primary & metastatic - irrespective of their anatomical location in the body or pathological sub-type – and permeating drug molecules into the targeted tumor mass, will improve therapeutic outcomes and reduce life-threatening systemic toxicities induced by routinely administered chemotherapeutic regimens. Creating molecular dimension-specific temporary pores in the cell membrane using precisely computed, safe radiofrequencies (RF) from an external source, to non-invasively deliver the drug payload, is much less complicated and more cost-efficient than current or emerging invasive, drug delivery approaches. The short-comings of cancer chemotherapy plaguing the industry and patients that desperately need good drugs, can…

As a high school student, I was greatly involved in service through activities such as being a junior volunteer at my local hospital and creating my own donation drive for a domestic violence shelter. My time at Boise State not only allowed me to continue to serve my community, but I also developed leadership skills and carried out projects I never thought I could be capable of. As a freshman, I helped found the Boise State chapter of Colleges against Cancer and was in charge of creating, implementing, and managing the Luminaria Ceremony at Boise State’s first Relay for Life event. The following year, not only was I director over both the Survivor and Luminaria Ceremony, but as a resident assistant for Boise State Housing, I helped my residents create a team and put on fundraisers for the event as well. Last summer, I volunteered as a counselor for both sessions of the Boise Youth Spectacular, a three-day, LDS-ran youth conference.…

I also finalized the dates I would be collecting the food and delivering the donations to the food bank. Next, I prepared flyers which I hung around McClure at the post office, library, bank, Top Star, and Rachel’s Place. In November, I made information sheets for 100 paper bags explaining my project and asking for donations. Next, I distributed the food drive bags to houses in McClure.…
