Chemo's Tears-Personal Narrative

The tears began to roll down her face. Who would have thought that this would happen to her true inspiration? The past three years, while entering young adulthood, had hurt their relationship. They had grown so far apart, and at this moment she realized, it was her fault. “They want to try chemo and a few other things. They say I shouldn’t worry and the chemo will work.” The words seemed frozen in time.

“Chemo has worked on other people, so it should work for you too, right Dad?” She responded in shock.

He smiled when he looked at her. Only his smile could ease her pain.

“You always did look at the positive side of things,” he told her.

“I just want to apologize for all the things I’ve done. I hope you can forgive me,” she said.

“I already have, you’re my little girl,” he said while he pulled her in for a hug.

They laughed, they cried, and they bonded. They did their best to forget the cancer. Tanya fell in love with her dad all over again and they became joined at the hip. As time passed they all saw the clues. Still they refused to let it get them down.

Soon it came time for Mark to undergo chemotherapy. He said to her, “Don’t worry my little girl. I’m going to be just fine.”

For days she stuck by his bedside. It kept his spirits up.

The days went on and the chemo weakened his already frail body. Soon they sent Mark home with little hope that things would change. Still his head was held high. As long as he had his daughter by his side, he seemed to not worry about what was going to happen to him.

One afternoon Mark gathered the strength to go outside and found Tanya sobbing. He wrapped his arms around her tight and held her.

“It’s going to be alright.”

“I’m scared Dad. I need you.” She
