As the moon graced the earth with its presence late into the 9th of October, 2015, the thoughts, of which field of study in college would best adapt to my desires in life, convoluted my mind. Rather than letting me fall asleep, my insomniac brain persisted and compelled myself to question everything and caused a restless night with plenty of tossing and turning. And so through pondering, two categories rose higher than the rest, implementing two choices of either a business major, or a chemistry major. Similar to most students my age, the ability to stall important matters is a trait that I share, resulting in the agreement that the issue would be best to resolve in the morning. With the confirmation that I was going to negotiate this dispute …show more content…
The screech of the vehicle would always seem to retreat in the distance, but a roar of another vehicle would always cultivate causing my mind to flip from one topic to another for each passing car. One moment I was giving myself the pros of becoming a chemistry major and as a car passed by, my mind would flip and would begin thinking about the pros of becoming a business major. This flip-flopping of ideas sickened me as I was unable to maintain my thoughts on a topic long enough to compare different pros and cons and, consequently, I sought to rid of this annoyance. The playground awarded a solace environment free from the nuisance of the vehicles and presented a blissful tone too, which allowed for each side of the spectrum to clearly dance around in my …show more content…

The conclusion being that in order to achieve relative happiness in life, it is necessary to uphold an occupation that challenges you to the maximum effort possible. If a business major was in my horizons, then the likely-hood of owning my father’s real estate business would be in the picture and would create a schedule allowing for only one work day a week, providing little to no challenge. Another question the playground peeked, was what if the faulty choice were to be commissioned into action? Words began to stumble among my lips, being unable to bear a response. Eventually mutterings turned into syllables and then into words releasing into the world that if the wrong choice was selected, then years of

You stressed that students should avoid majoring in business for a multitude of reasons, all of which were to protect the student themselves. Due to the exceptionally large number of graduates with business degrees, you inferred that business majors live a lower quality of life, and that it would be difficult for an individual entering the business world to separate themselves from the crowd. In addition, you stated that those who major in business do not end up working in a career where they make as much money as they originally expected. Lastly, you suggested that students majoring in business do not learn anything that holds significant value, compared to other majors, and that students can learn the “skills” they acquire in business school simply by working for the corporate world. Although these are all strong points, there is actually a plethora of opportunities in the workforce for graduates with business degrees.…

John Krumboltz’s Happenstance Learning Theory discusses that human behavior is the result of different learning experiences made available by both planned and unplanned situations in which human beings find themselves. Since no one can know in advance the destiny or outcome of an individual’s decision, Krumboltz used the Happenstance Learning Theory as an attempt to explain why individuals follow certain career paths in life and how counselors can use this theory to guide their clients through this process. Going to college is, according to Murray, a waste of time for many, as most occupations do not require such amounts of knowledge…
