Because I took such challenging chemistry courses and was able to succeed in them, they have given me a new kind of confidence which has influenced me to be a better student in school. Since my first chemistry class, I have tried to get as involved with the sciences offered at my school. I constantly go to Saturday study sessions that are given at my school in order to get ahead in my science classes. I also attended “Dia De Ciencias” at UCR to get further involved with the STEM programs and to see if majoring in Biochemistry was right for me.
I know that by majoring in Biochemistry and becoming a doctor in my future I will always feel joy and satisfaction with my life because they all have chemistry within them. I find this subject so interesting and fascinating, enough so I will be basing my career and entire future on it.

Since I want to become a doctor later on in my life I knew that I could only allow this experience to academically affect me in a positive way. Instead of becoming a person who lost focus on school, I was able to show that through this experience I became a resilient person that did better in school. I will later in my life need to be resilient and now because becoming a doctor is a tough career path and I can not allow myself to give up each time someone tells me I can not be a doctor.
So although this was by far the most painful situation I have ever gone through because it was like losing a parent, a best friend, I will not let it bring me down. I will show how out of this situation I have grown and have turned these series of tragedies into my strengths and motivation to become a doctor one day. (357)
