The enduring questions that were presented to us at the beginning of the year in the course syllabus served as the “framework” for the course. We can gain knowledge to understand systems by studying the ways that bonds are formed and the different parts of the atom. This can be understood by using the models in lab #2 to connect how the system works together to form one functional bond, cell, tissue, organ, or organism. Using the knowledge that we have gained, we can predict what will happen in future events by studying the evidence of atoms and atoms, as well as looking into patterns that chemistry experiments might portray. Experiment 3 was a great example of where we had to use stoichiometry to see the number of reactants that would be created in a specific reaction. We did this by identifying the limiting reactant and looking for the theoretical amount of CO2 that will be produced in a certain reaction however, human error and other emissions that might occur create some limitations to finding the exact values of the products. We can solve problems or design new products by implementing the scientific method. Creating hypotheses, performing experiments, and making conclusions have taught us the …show more content…
Each week, the lab reinforced the lessons taught in lecture and allowed me to have a hands-on experience of the concepts which aided my comprehension of the topics from week to week. The labs built upon my knowledge based in prior chemistry classes and in lecture by forcing me to understand the practical side of the calculation and the significance of each data set that I produced on a day to day basis. Overall, chemistry lab was a pleasant experience because it provided me with a deeper knowledge of the subject and a practical understanding of general

While it is necessary to delegate different tasks to team members, leaders also possess the responsibility of their team as a whole. While my Robotics team was revising our robot for the VEX Robotics Mid-Atlantic Championships, I made sure to keep track of the team’s progress in the engineering notebook, as well as supervise the work of my fellow team members. At Governor’s School, I will make sure to collaborate and contribute ideas, as well as provide leadership skills such as guidance, encouragement, and responsibility. The scientific method and problem-based learning located at Governor’s School is a new way of learning that will test my ability to develop solutions by experimenting, inquiring, and analyzing.…

I found this to be very useful as many of the chemistry stories and scientific explanations went right over my head. The book covers every aspect of science that I could think of. So much of what I learned while reading this book involved much more than just chemistry. I learned about history, alchemy, astrohistory, math, geology, and mythology. At times it seemed as if I was reading a textbook, with how much information there was.…

The ability to predict products helps scientists hypothesize an outcome that can be proven or disproven. With the ability to predict precisely, scientists can get very close to the outcome just from the given information, if not perfectly predict it. This speeds up the experiment and allows scientists to continue with their work in an efficient manner. By classifying chemical reactions, scientists are able to understand the similarities between various reactions and further the understanding of the behaviour of varying reactants under given circumstances. These abilities, once perfected, provide the science field with an efficiency and knowledge that can be applied to greater concepts of higher…

Hi Aylin, First thank you for the revisions on Chapters 1-4. I am working to get them all done first and I will let you know when we will do 5-7. I wanted to address your question about the order of the laboratory syllabus. You asked, why we do measurements and scientific papers first and not the scientific method.…

The purpose of the lab was to fully understand the Herztsprung-Russel diagram. We use this diagram to categorize stars with their stellar properties. By examining a star’s temperature, relative size, and luminosity for instance, you can plot them on an HR diagram. During the lab we did four different activities to understand the lab.…

Summary of KINS 470 For most classes, the main portion of the class is lecture, and then there may be a lab attached to go along with what is learned. Exercise Science Lab was different than any other class that I have taken in the exercise science curriculum. The entire class was a lab class itself. The lecture was very minimum, and most of the time spent was conducting tests and collecting data.…

In this course most of the topic are presented as a base for questions that lead to the meat of the topic. One example was that question of ``What is the original source of energy in our body? ``, from the topics we learned we have to make a connection through different things to get our answer. As we need to understand that energy in our body is ATP, the energy that cells use, is produced by cellular respiration. Cellular respiration requires oxygen and glucose to happen.…

During this semester I personally contributed to my overall success in the PTAP 2310 class by studying consistently and coming prepared to class. I found that having previously read the chapter and notes, I was able to further understand what Dr. Amite was teaching. This also proved to be beneficial if I had trouble understanding a portion of the chapter I could come with questions. I entered this class knowing that my performance and understanding of the information relied heavily on my entrance into the PTA program. Becoming a PTA is so important to me that it kept me driven to have a complete understanding of the material, even when it was most difficult.…

Chemistry is a branch of science that deals with the identification of the substances of which matter is composed. It also involves the properties and the ways in which they interact, combine, and change. Chemistry is important to life. The environment is composed of many chemicals without identification of chemicals we wouldn’t know what chemicals are safe to have around or which chemicals are harmful and dangerous to our bodies. To answer the enduring question, how do we gain knowledge to understand a chemical system, particularly since we cannot see atoms or molecules?…

Writing is not the first thing that comes to mind when the word chemistry comes appears. With the subject of chemistry, people usually think of cool experiments such as making toxic chemicals and blowing things up; however, writing plays a very vital part as a chemist. Dr. John Leyba, the chemistry and biochemistry department head and professor at the University of North Georgia (UNG), was able to give an insight of writing in the world of chemistry. Earning a Bachelor of Science in Truman State University and a Ph.D. in Nuclear Chemistry from the University of California, Berkeley, Dr. Leyba was able to provide a plethora of experience in writing from both school and work during the conversation. After speaking with Dr. Leyba, it was made…

The learning assistants for Professor Bahde’s Organic Chemistry I class, Allyson Dang and I, wanted to give the students a problem to work on involving a reaction mechanism. The students in that class have been struggling in many areas of the subject, but the main issue they have is drawing out reaction mechanisms. Knowing how to draw out reaction mechanisms is one of the most, if not the most important part of organic chemistry. When theoretically reacting molecules, one must know not only which molecules react with which, but also which parts of the molecules react with others.…
