Chemical Reactions in Real World Applications
Chemistry happens in the world around you, not just in a lab. Matter interacts to form new products through a process called a chemical reaction or chemical change. There are several types of chemical reactions, including synthesis, decomposition, combustion, single displacement, and double displacement reactions. Every time you cook or clean, it 's chemistry in action. Your body lives and grows thanks to chemical reactions. There are reactions when you take medications, light a match, and take a breath. Below is 10 chemical reactions in everyday life, which demonstrates that chemical reactions and their applications have significant implications for society and the environment.
1.Kitchen - Light a Gas Grill
Every time when people strike a match, burn a candle, build a fire, or light a grill, we see the combustion reaction. Combustion combines energetic molecules with oxygen to produce carbon dioxide and water. For example, the combustion reaction of propane, found in gas grills and some fireplaces, is:
C3H8 + 5O2 → 4H2O + 3CO2 + energy
Liquid propane is a type of fuel in gas grills, the combustion reaction occurs with the absence of oxygen, and water, carbon dioxide, energy is released for grilling. Combustion is a chemical reaction in everyday life, since combustion releases heat and often flame. In this example, people are able to do outdoor grilling in summer.
2.Kitchen - Baking
Baking is not usually thought of as a chemical…
