There is a need to ban synthetic chemical pesticides. Chemical pesticides are linked to a wide range of health problems. There are short term health problems like headaches and vomiting, and there are life altering long term effects such as hormonal problems and cancer. Long term effects can occur after little exposure in the environment or by eating or drinking food and water. Some studies by the national cancer institute discovered that American farmers have a lot higher population percentage of cancer. Chemical pesticides use kills bees which pollinate a lot of the plants and worms which keep the soil healthy and naturally limit pest populations. The Chemicals actually weaken the plants roots and immune system, the thing that the farmers are trying to protect. That is like shooting yourself in the foot. …show more content…
An article by Popular Science explained that strawberry farmers could use bees to protect their plants instead of synthetic pesticides. When the bees would leave the hive they would have an organic white powder called Clonostachys rosea on them that could be delivered to the plants when they land on them. Once the powder gets onto the plants, it makes the plants resistant to gray mold. Farmers in Canada have already started using this
