The first step would be to ingest the sandwich and start the chewing process (mechanical digestion), in the mouth the saliva (amylase) will begin the chemical digestion (the moment it has come in contact with the starch present in the food), they start breaking down the carbohydrates (which are present in the bread and peanut butter) The food will continue its journey of digestion by being pushed down the pharynx and esophagus. Once the food arrives in the stomach the gastric juice will start breaking/churning down the food cells and the present pepsin will then begin with digesting the protein that was present in the food (mostly the peanut butter) and turn them in to amino acid molecules at this point.
