Society assumes that the lower class people are prone to crime and the upper class are perfect people and do nothing wrong. No one should judge others based on their class nor shield things to cover up their class. In the story, Diaz says “Clear the government cheese from the refrigerator” (1) Diaz is trying to hid his identity in order to satisfy a girl, thinking that he will be judged if the government cheese is seen. He presents different places to hid the cheese based on the girl. Your actions aren’t based on your race and stereotype. For Instance, diaz says “If the girl’s from around the way, take her to El Cibao for dinner....If she’s not from around the way, Wendy’s will do.” (2) Positioned on where she lives he decides on where to take her. If she is from around the area he takes her somewhere nice so it doesn't look like he's from the lower class trying to hid his identity. No one should be ashamed of their class and whether they take a girl to Wendy’s or El Cibao. In conclusion, stereotypes and racism is a big factor in today's society. Everyone is judged based on their skin color and what is said about another with the same skin color. As shown above, Diaz conveys different stereotypes toward brown girls, black girls, white girls, and halfies not knowing if it's true about one.
