Cheerleading Team Report

I was student-coaching a practice the week before the cheerleading teams showcase. My 8th grade athletes that I had coached for a while now were very nervous about the performance. Due to the lack of organization from the head coaches, the most hard working athletes lost faith in their team. Never would I define them as quitters. When they came to me after practice showing me texts of all the girls that wanted to quit, my heart sank. I know what it’s like to have an uninterested, unorganized coach. I didn’t want them to have the same experience that I had in recreational cheer, so I made it a priority to be their coach. It was hard with all of the AP classes and being on the varsity cheerleading team, but I managed. I knew how hard-working

One cannot half-heartedly get into being a coach. There are many nights they leave their family, without second thought. Coaches literally put it all on the line for the athletes, and do not get enough credit for all they do. It seems as if players do not fully appreciate the high school coach until they graduate and are not around them every waking minute.…

As my second level 1 Fieldwork, I chose to volunteer for the Raleigh County Special Olympics Cheerleading team. There were four cheerleaders whose deficits ranged from Down syndrome, psychological, speech, low muscle tone, also across the autism spectrum. In which, Cheerleading enhances the following: attention span, comprehension, organization, sequencing, increased endurance, postural control, and increases social skills. Over a course of a month we gathered to participate in the learning of cheers and a competition dance. The support the athlete’s family had showed during practices and competition was influential to not only their child or family member but to me, as a volunteer and as an Occupational Therapy Assistant Student.…

Cheerleaders are despicable. They are utterly malevolent. At least that is how they are commonly portrayed in the media. The cheerleading trope is an exceptionally popular occurrence that is seen time and time again throughout pop culture and popular media in the form of films, television shows, books, music, and even video games. The cheerleader trope is frequently portrayed by a single girl or a group of girls who are a part of a cheerleading squad.…

Throughout the summer I decided that I wanted to spend most of my time volunteering at youth cheerleading camps. Not only did I get the chance to interact with younger girls and set a good role model, but I also got the chance to work with other girls my age who have talent and loves cheerleading just as much as I do! The two camps I was a part of was the Danny Lansanah Football/Cheerleading Camp and the Packers & Broncos Cheerleading Camp. Both camps were located at John Harris High School for ages 5-14 and were free with food provided. During both camps my job was to focus on the basic skills you need to learn to become a cheerleader and also make up a routine to teach the girls.…

At the time we were very low on coaches and trying to reach out to everyone that we could. Even though this may have been a very small success, I think it was huge. Persuading my friend to donate her time while she is also busy with school was challenging, but it helped improve my persuading and communications skills. I would build upon this by being more vocal when trying to get more coaches. I think talking to people in person makes everything more personal and they may be more willing…
