Cheerleading has always been a very important aspect to my life. In high school our cheerleading squad had an experience that proved cheerleaders do not get the respect from other athletes that they deserve. As a cheerleading squad, we were at every football and basketball game, even the away games. We were there to show support for our fellow athletes, however when our squad was in a cheerleading competition, not one of the other athletes came in support of us. This showed the lack of respect other athletes had for our cheerleading squad.…

That’s not even half of what cheerleading is. If you don’t consider that a sport, then hopefully I can give you some insight why me along with many others around the nation consider cheer a sport.…

Though still new and misunderstood, competitive cheerleading is a sport and should be treated as one by society. It not only requires an undeniable amount of endurance and strength, but it also fits the definition of a sport perfectly. Many people believe cheerleading is not a sport, but I happen to disagree. Acording to Wikipedia, the definition of a sport is an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment. Now I will admit that school cheering, when just cheering for another sport, is not a sport. Although competitive cheerleading is a sport, many people believe that it is not. (The Women's Sport Foundation has narrowed the field to the specific requirements: It must be a physical activity which involves propelling a mass through space or overcoming the resistance of mass.)…
