Do you know someone who gets fired up when someone says that cheerleading is not as much of a sport as football? Well that’s because cheerleaders just want to be recognized as the athlete they truly are. Cheerleading has been overlooked as a sport for many years. People believed that cheerleaders have been just a support system for the real sports. Despite what people may think, cheerleading is just as much as a sport as football because it requires strength, coordination, and skill. Cheerleading should be considered just as much as a sport as football because it requires a great amount of strength. Cheerleading is much more than just being strong and having coordination. Cheerleader’s have a time limit that they must meet, make sure there spacing in their formations are correct, and they have to keep a high energy level at the same time. According to Julia Angelen Joy, her daughter must watch the things she eats, workout, and attend extra tumbling classes. Despite football being a skillful sport, cheerleading, when taken seriously, can be just as skillful. Some believe that cheerleading is not as much of a sport as football. It’s true that football is a very difficult sport, but cheerleading also requires a lot of physical endurance. Many people recognize football as a sport because it has a much bigger audience than cheerleading does, but without cheerleaders the crowd wouldn’t get as excited throughout the game. People also associate football with toughness, pain, and violent behavior while cheerleading is associated with appearance and popularity. Despite what people may think, cheerleading is just as much as a sport as football. Cheerleaders work just as hard as football players and deserve to be recognized as a true athlete. Cheerleading requires strength, coordination, and skill. So when someone is talking down about cheerleading, stop them and make sure they know what cheerleading is truly
