Cheerleading is something that has changed drastically in the past years. In the past couple of decades cheerleaders have left the sidelines and have stepped up to the mat. It is now a competitive sport. ”Cheerleading isn 't about winning, it 's about being better than you were yesterday”-unknown. Cheerleading has grown so much, now cheerleaders are focusing on making themselves and the sport better. The orgins of cheer origionally started in Great Britian.In 1883, they started the trend of cheering and chanting at sports games. However, the first official cheer was at the University of Princeton in 1884 in Princeton, New Jersey(cheerleading.Isport.com). Tumbling itself, even when performed perfectly, can put a lot of strain on an athlete 's body. For example: “When you tumble, the maximum amount of force exerted on your knee joints is anywhere from 8-14x your bodyweight”(Sahil Hulla). Let 's put this into perspective. Let 's say an athlete weighs 100 lbs. If she were to do a simple tumbling pass like a roundoff-back handspring-back tuck, her knees experience the impact of tumbling 3 times. The first is the round off, the second is the backhandspring and the third is the back tuck. Let’s just say that her knees are healthy and have no damage, so she only feels 8x her body weight.Therefore, the total amount of pounds her knees go through is as follows: 100 pounds times 8, which would give you 800 pounds. Then, if you multiply that by how many times your knees feel that weight(3x), you will get the amount of force your knees feel in one simple tumbling pass. 800 pounds times 3, this will give you 2,400 pounds. Like all popular sports, there are popular athletes. There are cheerleaders from all over the country that are very well known. Athletes look up to these cheerleaders like any other sport. These “cheerlebrites” influence the sport greatly and have a huge following on social media. Carly Manning(Cheer Athletics) has over ninety-five thousand followers on twitter and is actually verified twitter user. Gabi Butler(California All Stars, Top Gun All Stars and Gymtyme All Stars) has over one-hundred thousand followers on twitter. Gabi Butler also starred on a youtube show, sponsored by AwesomenessTV, that took you through the season of a cheerleader. This show revealed what went on at practices, competitions and other cheer related activities. Maddie Gardner(Cheer Extreme All Stars and UNC cheerleader) was one of the original “cheerlebs”. In 2010, she was the first one to attempt(as a flyer) and actually compete a ball up 360 tick-tock. This was a stunt that no one had ever done nor thought of doing . This stunt helped bring the gold home for her team,Cheer Extreme Senior Elite, at the 2010 Cheerleading
