Cheerleading Captain

Decent Essays
I have had the pleasure of serving as captain on the junior varsity, varsity and all-star cheerleading teams. As captain, I help lead my squads at games. I also teach them safe ways to perform stunts. In addition, I am very excited to have the opportunity to choregraph our pep rally this year. Being a cheerleader provides a positive role model for other girls. It shows them the women can be strong and smart. Our varsity cheerleading squad was recognized for having the highest average GPA among all our athletic teams.

I also work as a cheerleading and tumble coach. This opportunity has given me so much pleasure. I love working with the young girls and boys. The smiles and sometimes tears on their faces when they attain a new skill

After the flags passed, two baton twirlers preceded the rest of the SIU cheerleaders. The baton twirlers performed a coordinated routine which started with the music played by the Salukis Marching band. These two twirlers rotated their batons very fast, then they tossed them into the air and jumped to catch it before it dropped to the floor. Then three rows of cheerleaders who were wearing a very sophisticated uniform made with the SIU colors, maroon, black and white, passed. Their uniforms are beautiful, their tops are divided in two sections, one section is maroon, the other is black with a very delicate white embroidery with an asymmetrical shape, the same top motif is used for the belt that covers most of the cheerleaders' midriffs.…

Not only did I get the chance to interact with younger girls and set a good role model, but I also got the chance to work with other girls my age who have talent and loves cheerleading just as much as I do! The two camps I was a part of was the Danny Lansanah Football/Cheerleading Camp and the Packers & Broncos Cheerleading Camp. Both camps were located at John Harris High School for ages 5-14 and were free with food provided. During both camps my job was to focus on the basic skills you need to learn to become a cheerleader and also make up a routine to teach the girls.…
