Cheerleading is a physical activity and sometimes competitive sport. Cheerleading started in the 1880s when an all male pep club was started at Princeton University, it was not until 1923 that girls were introduced to the sport because men had to go fight in World War 11. Since then cheerleading has evolved from standing in front of the crowd and yelling to competing at world events. Whether the organization has choreographed routines that range from two or three minutes that cover the basics; dances, jumps, cheers, and stunting. Cheerleading is a way of getting teams motivated; from yelling to the physical activity. The job of cheerleaders is to give the audience entertainment and excitement to holler and root for the team. Introducing stunting which is a difficult skill in cheerleading. Some of the different positions are called bases, back spots, front spots, and flyers. To start off with, the positions are all important no matter what position you are in. A base is in direct contact with the performing surface (floor or mat) and supports the flyers weight. The back spot is in a correct spot in case there was an injury to a flyer and is the person that protects the head and shoulders. The front spots are in charge of the flyer if she falls forward.
