Cheerleading: A Sport

My movie shows the struggle of pushing cheerleading to become recognized as a sport, and lists the reasons of why it should be. As a cheerleader, many times, I have had to have this argument with other athletes in order to prove the hard work, passion, and dedication that is required of this sport. This is why I chose to make it into a movie, so that I could persuade others into agreeing with me. The audience that I am reaching to with this method of justification will be mostly children and teens that are against cheerleading simply because they do not understand it. “You are on the sidelines” and “You are cheering for a sport, therefore it can’t be a sport,” are just some of the many counter arguments I have received. I acknowledge the difficulty of making the connection to other sports if one does not truly know what is behind closed doors. Also, it is easy to become hard headed and close-minded when one does not see how far the sport has come and how drastically has changed. With this movie, I was hoping to shed light on these problems by showing what one never really sees, unless you belong to the sport. Strategies that I focused on to enhance my argument were: including history of the sport, which gave it a stronger background, parallel editing, powerful background music that could add to the identified issues, and the use of
