Cheer Is Sweet Persuasive Speech

Improved Essays
“Cheer is stupid, it’s just a waste of time.” A variation of opinions attempt to discourage me. “Cheer isn’t even a sport, ya’ll don’t do anything.” Again, more people against what I love to do. I didn’t join cheer because of the “popularity” the cheerleaders got in the movies. Cheerleading takes hard work, dedication, and determination. Nothing in life is ever just handed to you, and if it is it’s probably just a knitted christmas sweater from your grandma that is two sizes too small, otherwise, you’re required to work for what you want most. As I have walked these imperfect high school hallways for four years, I start to realize that soon our high school experiences will become distant memories of the past that seem to just be fading away

Many people didn’t consider the thing I love the most, the thing that drives and pushes me to be the best in life, and the thing that many people live for not a sport. The thing frustrating me the most is when people think Allstar Cheerleading is not a sport and they are usually the ones that don’t understand what it takes to be an Allstar Cheerleader and why it is in fact a sport. As the advancement in Cheerleading came full force into the world, during the early 1980s, there were many Cheerleading squads that were not associated with their school programs. These squads main focus and objective was the competition side of Cheerleading.…

Throughout my high school cheerleading career, I have had five different coaches. I have classified them into The Mom, The BFF, The Nazi, The Babysitter, The Crazy One, and The Ideal Coach. Each one made a distinct impact on cheer at TCPS in their own way, positive or negative, because of their actions and attitudes. Each category is specially designed for each coach I’ve had and their demeanor towards the cheerleading squad.…

Cheerleading has always been a very important aspect to my life. In high school our cheerleading squad had an experience that proved cheerleaders do not get the respect from other athletes that they deserve. As a cheerleading squad, we were at every football and basketball game, even the away games. We were there to show support for our fellow athletes, however when our squad was in a cheerleading competition, not one of the other athletes came in support of us. This showed the lack of respect other athletes had for our cheerleading squad.…

Though still new and misunderstood, competitive cheerleading is a sport and should be treated as one by society. I used to be so afraid of failure that I wouldn’t even challenge myself. I thought it was better to excel in classes that I knew I could pass than to challenge myself and accept the grade I earned. Cheer taught me that being a student-athlete doesn’t mean that I have to take the easy way out. I took my first AP class during my junior year and was able to ace it using the qualities I learned through cheer. I even challenged myself further by taking two college courses and an AP class during my senior…

After reviewing my persuasive speech over why the University of Oklahoma is the best university in the nation, I would sum up my speech as a little bit of train wreck. Although I made good claims with factual evidence, the amount of stuttering I did, and all the times I was choked up throughout the speech drew my audience’s attention away. From this, I lost my audience’s belief that I was competent of the information I was reiterating to them. At the introduction of my speech I believe I started out fairly strong and gave a good run down of the coming speech.…

Cheerleading gets argued about being a sport every day, and if you think standing on the sidelines of a real sports team game, yelling you`re very wrong. The whole stadium is yelling and cheering, a bunch of girl voices don 't make that much of a difference. Cheerleading is very much not a sport, especially high school cheerleading.
