Cheating has been in a lot of schools around the country and is probably happening right now. I do have an issue with this. I do not think that it is fair for people who are cheating to be able to pass a class. They are not doing the work. I also think that cheating and plagiarizing are different things. Cheating is when you use the internet to find answers, or you look at someone else 's paper who is in your class while doing homework or taking a test. Plagiarizing is when you copy something word for word, and you use it on a paper or on an essay. Plagiarizing is worse than cheating because the student is putting no effort into plagiarizing they are just copying. Teachers are resigning and colleges are letting the wrong people in because of cheating. With …show more content…

They do not know how to do their own work without taking it from someone on the internet. Students who really should be in college, do not cheat in high school, often have lower grades because teachers are grading professional papers for the students who cheat. Good students have to compete with cheaters to get into college. In high school, students must sit in class and try to memorize all the information spoken by the teacher to do well in the class rather than think broadly about the material. This causes students to think non-critically. As Paulo Friere’s states in “The Banking Concept of Education”, “the more students work at storing the deposits entrusted to them, the less they develop the critical consciousness…they tend simply to adapt to the world as it is and to the fragmented view of reality deposited in them” (Frierre, 3). This hurts college students because unlike high school teachers, college professors expect their students to think critically throughout the semester. In the book, The Transition to College Writing written by Keith Hjortshoj, Hjortshoj explains how college professors think students are ready for college, stating “college teachers tend to assume that [students] are already familiar with…expectations or that [students] will make the necessary adjustments on [their] own” (Hjortshoj, 9).…
