In this novel it’s Gatsby’s obsession with Daisy, and Daisy’s obsession with society that cause issues. Today, it can be anything. People are obsessed with shows, drugs, songs, and celebrities. This can mean death from overdose, death of either the drinker or others due to drunk driving, or the death of the celebrity from the obsession. An example of this is what happened to Christina Grimmie just this year. It is ok to like something, but once it develops to obsession it begins to hurt yourself and others. Finally, this book addresses the dilemma of marrying for love or security. Though not as big a problem in our society today it is still a problem. However, it presents itself differently. Now it may not be that they decide to marry someone else, but instead waiting until college loans or debts are to get married.
