Have you ever accused someone of cheating? Or maybe have you ever been accused of cheating? Many people have accused someone or have been accused themselves. In fact, 41 percent of marriages have had one or both spouses admit to infidelity, and that only includes the people who have actually admitted cheating (Infidelity Statistics). Because many people have different definitions for cheating, cheating can be hard to define. Some people may include looking at another person as cheating, where others think that it is okay to cheat on their partner., Cheating, as defined in the dictionary, is “to be sexually unfaithful; get a little on the side” (“Cheating”). Is cheating really just ‘getting a little something on the side’? What does that ‘something on the side’ consist of? I guess it depends on who you are asking. In this essay I will explore the definition of cheating in my own words as well as my opinion on cheating, and what cheating consists of. Any type of intimate physical affection to another person, besides your partner, as well as any action that is caused by physical attraction are acting in unfaithfulness, or lying, therefore is cheating. Before defining cheating, people need to understand what causes someone to cheat, the actions that lead up to cheating. “Research shows that the risk of a relationship ending increases as the supply of potential alternative relationships increase” (Newman 5).
