The article “Cheap Eats, Cheap Labor” by Diep Tran, a chef and restaurant owner of Good Girl Dinette, published on February 12th of 2017, argues that cheap eats lists are unacceptable. Diep discusses the unfairness of why some restaurants are capable of offering their food at a cheaper price. Furthermore, she emphasizes the issue of immigrants working at restaurants and not getting paid fairly. The author asserts, “This view of people of color as sources of "cheap" labor bleeds into our restaurant culture: Immigrant food is often expected to be cheap, because, implicitly, the labor that produces it is expected to be cheap, because that labor has historically been cheap” (“Cheap Eats, Cheap Labor: The Hidden Human Costs Of Those Lists”).
