My argument is that ISIS is an issue that needs to be addressed and taken care of. My goal is for my audience, Chattanoogans, to see the billboard and petition for action to be taken against ISIS affiliates, and thus, ISIS inspired attacks. Because ISIS is such an imposing force worldwide, they are causing claimed direct attacks as well inspired attacks (those not enacted by ISIS but rather those who support the group). Therefore, I chose the word “affiliates” in my text to recognize that distinction between the two. Moreover, I chose my call to action to be “petition” because it is a reasonable action that most people can realistically do easily. I chose to use the Chattanooga Fallen Five because they are well known to the area and even have a recognizable mural in Chattanooga for their honor. I included their photos to remind Chattanoogans of the tragedy that took place when a terrorist attack took their lives. By doing this, I incorporate pathos in the billboard and will be able to keep my audience’s attention. Furthermore, I chose to have white space so that the audience’s eyes will travel to the message rather than get distracted by a cluttered visual as well as the banner to focus my audience’s eye towards to the phrase below it. This also works to include a patriotic factor, since the fallen five were military personnel. Likewise, the color in the billboard stands out against the white space. The red white and blue in the center and acts as an eye-catcher so that my audience focuses on the message. In short, the rhetorical choices made in this billboard all work in favor of the purpose of my billboard, which is for Chattanoogans to petition to stop ISIS
