What I plan to write about is how the author used the letters in the story to make meaning in the text and to its readers. Charlotte Temple is a story about a girl who was noticed by someone who goes by the name of Montraville. He found a liking to her at a Dance they were both at when she was thirteen years old and noticed her two years later when she was fifthteen. “At the time he thought on her only as a very lovely child, she being then only thirteen; but the improvement two years had made in her person, and the blush of recollection which suffused her cheeks as she passed, awakened in his bosom new and pleasing ideas”(39). Once he saw Charlotte and seen the change in her body and how mature she became he wanted to see her again and hold a conversation with her.

Charlotte was scared of the fact that her mother would take her out of school and wanted to attain a greater proficiency in Italian and music. Even though Charlotte decided to put the letter down she was still thinking about Montraville and discussing the features with

Similarities and Differences between Charlotte Temple and Franklin’s Autobiography Charlotte Temple by Susan Rowson and The Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin have similar purposes by both having moral lessons. Rowson writes a true, disguised as fictional, story of the misfortune of a naive young girl to warn other naive young girls about such misfortunes that should, and can absolutely, be avoided. Franklin’s purpose is to record his experiences in the New World and hope that others will learn from his mistakes as well as expects them to follow him in becoming morally perfect by working on their weakness. Although both pieces of literature have confident and encouraging tones to follow their advises, Rowson is more melodramatic and uses…

With the colonies recently winning their independence from Britain and the adoption of a new constitution this idea of “American” life started to form. From the novel we can see gender roles, differences in social classes, ideas of marriage, and even a little of their system of militarism. From information gathered in textbooks and other historical facts we can see the power in the society is dominated by rich white men and the book gives us further insight on this. Not only does the book show the power of men, but it also focuses on the lifestyle of the women and shower the little power they have.…
