Though she walked away from God’s messenger, Charlotte was not able to forget his words. The desire burned within her to know that her soul was safe for eternity. These feelings grew stronger and stronger, and Charlotte knew that something had to be done. She took a pen of paper and began to pen these words: “Just as I am, without one plea, but that Thy blood was shed for me, and that Thou bidst me come to Thee, O Lamb of God, I come, I come.” This hymn was later published in “The Invalid’s Hymnal”. Charlotte wrote over 100 more hymns, but this one was definitely one of the most popular ones she wrote.
Charlotte could not have known how much of influence her words would have one day. Over a century later, and evangelist named Billy Graham would use “Just as I Am” in his international crusades.
