Journal Entry #3
In this novel, relationships are complicated to analyze. In particular, the relationship between Charlie and his family cannot be judged by its cover. If someone skims throughout their relationship nobody would understand the depth of their relationship. Skimmers would think that each family member is busy with their own lives. On the other hand, my family always have time to spend with each other. If I get bored, I have five people to speak with and at least one of them will always entertain me. My moments of depression never lasted longer than ten minutes because my parents or siblings would be there to cheer me up. However, when Charlie needed some company everyone played ping pong with him. First he went to his mother, then sister, then his room, then father, but nobody was in the mood to let him stay.

Nevertheless, I admire his integrity since I am missing that characteristic. Also, his sister wanted him to quit smoking for his health showing how much she cares even if she fights with Charlie all the

Prologue The stench of the trash was absolutely nauseating. Even though my brain was screaming at me to get rid of the repulsive gunk on my shirt, my legs couldn’t stop running. Winston was just a limp ball of fur in my shaking arms. I had to hold on to him, otherwise I would be lost in this cold world of darkness that was embedding itself with steel claws into my heart.…

Family Introduction Creating this genogram was a difficult task for me because my parents and their siblings hardly communicate with each other anymore. Ever since the passing of both my paternal grandfather and maternal grandmother, the families have simply fallen apart. Many relatives have distanced themselves from their extended families, and no longer have a desire to interact with their siblings or cousins. Sociopolitical and spiritual issues have caused some members of both families to harbor resentment against one another.…

When I decided what family event I wanted to do, I found that it was easier to find energy being taken away from our family unit than it was to find any energy being given. It was even more difficult to find any positive energy being generated within the family unit. At one point I found myself racking my brain to find anything positive during this time. In doing so I found that a lot of systems outside our family unit only gave some support and it usually came with their own opinions and attitudes, which is way I have more uncertain connections than strong connections. During all this reflection, I found that the bond with my sisters and I was always strong.…
