“Flowers for Algernon” focuses on a mentally challenged man name Charlie who undergoes an operation to make him three times smarter, but this decision was very unethical. The experiment was being done by two men, Dr. Strauss and Dr. Nemur, who test his intelligence before and after the operation to find out if it worked. This also proves that when Charlie changed his way of life he also changed the way God made him. “This intelligence has driven a wedge between me and all the people I once knew and loved...Now they hate me for my knowledge and understanding” (Keyes 149). This illustrates that Charlie know the reason for his problems always comes back to the operation. This also proves that the reason for his lonelyness is also an affect of the operation. Charlie changed his body for science because he was being taken advantage of without knowing

I think charlie was kind of treated like an animal because these doctors didn't know if it would work on a human or what the effects could be. The psychologists did not publicize what was going on. No one or thing was harmed or mistreated in the book. In my opinion, the surgery wasn't morally or ethically right because I believe we were all put on this earth as we are and we shouldn’t change ourselves based off of society. However, they did go about it fairly nicely and complied with the ethics of psychology…
