Charlie Monologue

Sticking two black button eyes on our snowman, I turned and gave Charlie a high-five. "Finished!" I said. "And there's not a finer snowman in the whole neighborhood." But Charlie wasn't looking at me. He was staring at the snowman, his face almost as white.

"D-d-d-did you s-s-s-see THAT?" he stammered....

I looked over to what Charlie was looking at, it was just the snowman. I turned to him again.

"See what?" I said

I just stared at Charlie for a good couple of minutes until I heard something behind me. I saw Charlie's eyes get even wider when he heard the sound. I turned around and saw that the snowman we had just built was starting to move! It started moving its stick arms and moving its two black buttons for eyes around. He scrunched

He had told us that his name was Frosty the snowman and he would love to have us to as his friends. Me and Charlie looked at each other and agreed. What the worst thing that can happen? We stayed and hung out with frosty for about two or three hours. I looked down at my wrist watch to see that it was six thirty. It was daylight saving time so it was getting dark pretty quickly. I told Charlie we had to get going before it got very dark, and we told the frosty we had to leave and we would be back tomorrow. He whined and asked where he was going to stay. So the three of us walked to my house and we guided frosty to the tree house. He went inside and got settled, he turned on the night light at the corner and leaned against the wall in peace. He closed his small little black button eyes and soon fell asleep. Me and Charlie went inside my house and got hot chocolate then headed up to my room. After a while of talking and watching tv, Charlie and I soon fell asleep too. We woke up at about 9:30 in the morning, put on our costs, hats, and gloves on and ran outside to the tree house. We couldn't find frosty anywhere. Until I had stepped into a puddle of went and cold water. I opened my eyes wide and noticed he had turned on the small electronic heater. I grabbed his eyes and nose, and Charlie grabbed his arms, mouth and buttons. We ran into my backyard and attempted to build him again. We built a new snowman with everything the same. Same button eyes, carrot nose, stick arms, and twig eyebrows. But nothing happened. Charlie and I sat down and closed our eyes. Until I opened them and looked down to see a shadow was covering us. I looked up to see Frosty smiling and laughing! Me and Charlie gave him a big hug and told him that the heat makes snowmen melt. He nodded his head laughing hysterically. Frosty the snowman, Charlie and I soon started playing in the snow once

They didn’t want the Nazi troops finding and capturing this abundant amount of gold.…

In poems, “Stealing” and “Education for leisure”, Duffy uses a range of literary devices like colloquial language and short sentences. Duffy clearly portrays a sinister and lonely persona in both poems. In “Stealing” the persona is presented as lonely and isolated from society so they resort to stealing just for the pleasure of doing it. Similarly, in “Education for leisure”, an egotistical young adult is portrayed who is killing living things to undo his intense isolation. These poems were written by Duffy to show the terrible situation the UK faced in the 1980s.…
