While researching literary agencies, I found your profile on the Stonesong website and noticed you are a Vassar Alumn (Go Brewers! I graduated in ’87). After relinquishing my career as a clinical researcher to work in a library (and serve as an Uber driver for my children), I have encountered many reluctant readers, especially boys, looking for something more challenging than the Magic Tree House series. They often stipulate, “It can’t be too big of a book and it can’t be boring.” I believe Charlie Malone and the Curse of the Pharaoh's Beard might fit that description.

Charlie would say Kira's lying, but it seems pointless when he finds himself staring down a sphinx, surrounded by hundreds of people dressed like ancient Egyptians. Although he would love to scale a pyramid or see a mummy, Charlie has to forego sightseeing when he and Kira learn their grandmother (who is also a Slider) is in town and has become one of Pharaoh Hapshepsut's best friends. Perhaps their grandmother’s mischievous meddling might create a conundrum, or two, for future archaeologists, but they recognize the real problem lies with the Pharoah's ambitious uncle, who has plans to change the course of history. Now, to preserve one of the most prosperous eras in Egypt’s past, Charlie just has to convince his grandmother to behave, defuse a political coup to overthrow the Pharaoh, and then finish that darn history project!
