Charlie Kaufman's Interest In Film

Improved Essays
I first became interested in applying to NYU after watching the films that Charlie Kaufman had written as well as directed. I looked Kaufman up, in order to learn more about his career as well as his background. When I found out that he had attended NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, I researched Tisch and discovered all of the other incredible men and women that have walked through its doors, and moulded film into what it is today. I wanted to learn from the minds that taught Martin Scorsese, or Phillip Seymour Hoffman. Sophomore Rachel Napoliello is a chemistry major from the greatest state of all: New Jersey. Embarrassingly enough, there is a strong possibility that she chose to apply to Tufts so she could join TUTV (look at her “Why Tufts?” essay for evidence). Rachel has been interested in filmmaking ever since she discovered the magic of iMovie many years ago. Some early examples of her work include The Thrill of Thursday, a charming story about her sister who is turned into a dog, and Trial by Blood, which if you ask her about will result in a long and unprompted rant (please ask her about it).…

Throughout the course of this semester, taking TCF 201 has taught me about, even though I come to the conclusion that going in this direction of actually being a filmmaker is not for me, in the end. However, it did teach me a great deal. I never knew how much work could go into producing and directing your own work, I mean I had a general idea, but nothing to this magnitude of the amount of work that it takes, plus the hours of sleep that I have lost took a toll on me as well. But it was all worth it.…

Hrabowski talks about the story of Walter Sondheim where “When Sondheim graduated from college, he took a job at Hochschild, Kohn & Company in Baltimore and had no idea what else he wanted to do with his life. Fortunately, college had given him a strong ground in the liberal arts and the ability to think broadly. That uncertain young man became the most admired civic leader in Maryland” (262). This great story of a famous man civic leader Hrabowski shares really gives his article a real-world connect that is nothing but positive to his article. Addison, however, don’t provide her own real-life story and experience the most she says is “Upon entry to my first community college I had but one O’level to my name” (256).…

As a part of my engagement assignment I decided to build a connection with a faculty mentor. After reading through the staff listing on the Arizona State website I decided that I wanted to sit down and talk with Professor Gregory Bernstein. I chose Professor Bernstein, because I read in his bio that he had written and sold several scripts. Becoming a writer for television and film is my goal, and the reason I chose to attend ASU, so I was interested to see what advice he could give me about the craft. When I met with Professor Bernstein we discussed how and why he became a writer, what it takes to make and sell a script, and films that we each enjoy.…

The narrative by Jonathan Franzen called the “The Comfort Zone: Growing Up with Charlie Brown” is a correlation of his life as a ten-year-old boy, his family, and the Charlie Brown stories written by Charles Schultz. To summarize, this story talks about how Jonathan thinks and interacts with his family, schoolmates, his obsession with Charlie Brown, and the history of the comic series Peanuts. The four pages I will focus on are 628-631. The purpose of each paragraph was to introduce each character, the pivotal situation that affected his family unit, and how the day after the fight between his parents and brother Tom, played out.…

I was born and raised in Long Island, New York. I have always loved the city in it’s craziest state, and find that everytime I go there, I am still rendered speechless at the sight of the skyline, the business and noise of Broadway and Central Park west contrasted by the relative quiet of Central Park, and the melting pot of people that so casually yet hurriedly stroll throughout their everyday life. For these reasons, I knew I had to go to a school in New York City, but choosing NYU fell upon different lines. Having parents who own and operate their own businesses, the business world has always been an interest of mine, and what better place to learn the ropes than New York City?…
