Charlie In The Movie 'Lies, Tears Cheers'

The perks of being a wallflower, Charlie a 15 years old male, a freshman in high school. The youngest child in his family, with two older siblings. He is entering into a new phase of childhood, that is one of the most difficult times for some children; and Charlie is no different. He portrays a typical teenager, who is socially awkward, shy and wants to fit in with the group of other classmates. Likely, most teenagers experiences the “Drama, Lies, Tears Cheers to the Teenage years.” (1) Charlie, did suffer from some repressed thoughts and feelings that he wasn’t aware of in the beginning of the movie. Patrick shares something in common with Charlie and that is they both love football. As they are watching the game a cute girl comes and starts talking to them and sits down next to Charlie. Sam is her name and she is Patrick’s step sister, who also is a senior at his school. For the first time in the movie Charlie smiles. They invite Charlie to a party after the game. He joins them and he is introduced to some other seniors from his school. One thing that Charlie and Sam have in common is that they both love to listen to music and enjoy sharing it with others to listen to. He writes a happy note to his friend expressing that he met some seniors who are his new friends and especially, he wrote about Sam. Now Charlie starts to enjoy going to school and to his lunch hour, he shares the time with his new friends and they talk and make plans to do things together. Charlie listens to everyone and starts to analyzing things they say and do. Wondering will he start to understand himself and why he feels things he can’t explain. At one of the party’s they attended together they announced that they were a group of misfits. With Charlie being one of the newest members to join. This is the first time in Charlie’s life that he feels that he can be honest with himself, and helps him process some of his emotions that is bottled up. Their friendship was created due to the acceptance they all had their own secrets among themselves and they accepted each other for that reason. With all of them sharing secrets they are using the psychoanalytic theory to inhibit their memories.
