In the novel “Perks of Being a Wallflower”, Charlie writes in the first letter that he will not share anything about him concerning his identity so his location is unknown however we do know it takes place in 1991. Charlie describes the area he lives in as a big town where many people know each other. One reason why it might be a town is that Charlie is coming home late from parties. Therefore Charlie's parents might feel more comfortable that Charlie is out late in a town rather than the city.

As we read Charlie's letters we encounter new characters. Charlie's family is quite complex, his father is strict when he has to be and his mother is more of a quiet person. Charlie's old sister is a senior and has a sibling love/hate relationship

The first example is when Charlie's English teacher tells him, "Charlie, we accept the love we think we deserve"(24). This would be the theme of how Charlie's sister views her boyfriend. Charlie's sister started to become more in love with her boyfriend after he abused her. The second example is “He’s a wallflower”(37). This is an example of characterization, Charlie is a person who analyzes events from a distance and makes his assumptions. The third example is “And in that moment, I swear we were infinite”(39). This could be a theme that throughout the story, Charlie and his friends will become more closer. The final example is “I love Twinkies, and the reason I am saying that is because we are all supposed to think of reasons to live”(50). This final example is a theme where everyone has their own reason to live and it might connect with the idea that Charlie's friend who died did not have a reason to …show more content…
Mom was very upset that you could not make it to Thanksgiving so make sure to visit soon so she’ll stop worrying about you. Yesterday we celebrated Thanksgiving and everyone from moms side visited. You know me very well so I won’t interrupt them because it is not my business to. We watched your high school football game and Charlie was glowing with excitement every time he saw you play. After that we gathered around the table and Charlie said that he was happy that we all saw you play so we wouldn't fight. Everyone around the table looked somewhat anger and I looked at Charlie and nodded with agreement. Then your aunt said amen and everyone became more comfortable. This Thanksgiving was great and I hope you can join us for Christmas. Study hard and play smart

The first example of this theme would be the relationship between Sonny and his Mother. I think Elsie Hickam had one of the greatest impacts on his life. She was always there to support him and encourage him to try harder and do the best he could. In chapter three she wanted him to try to build his rocket again because that was his dream, and it did not really work out the first time. A lot of people in Coalwood talked about what happened when the first rocket failed and his father was embarrassed for himself but his mother was not embarrassed.…

To begin with, a couple of weeks after Charlie, a 32-year-old man with an I.Q. of 68, has an operation to make him “smart”, he doesn't see any progress in his intelligence. After work one day, Frank and Joe, Two employees at Donner’s Bakery who often pick on Charlie, take Charlie to a bar, where they urge him to dance like a buffoon and then abandon him, but charlie is unaware of that and thinks they're all having a good time. “Everyone laffed and we had a good time and they gave me lots of drinks and Joe said Charlie is a card when hes potted” (190). This demonstrates that Charlie’s limited self-awareness is leaving him vulnerable for others to take advantage of. He’s limited self-awareness is making him unaware that Frank and Joe are picking on him and using him just for a laugh.…

As we all know, the theme of a story is the lesson that is being taught throughout the novel. But a theme can also be the subject of a talk, a piece of writing, or a person's thoughts. All stories have a theme, but they may not always be directly stated. This requires readers to dig deep down into the text and analyze the lessons that they have acquired through the book. Both of these themes are universal and implied. One of the themes of my story, is: Don’t draw conclusions without reason. This is basically the “Don’t judge a book by its cover” theme, stated in a less corny way. In The Lions of Little Rock, the other characters are quick to judge Liz when she was caught passing for white. Marlee though, got to know Liz first, and was appalled by some of the other characters’ reactions.…
