In addition, another reason Charlie was fired from the bakery, was because he didn't need to work there anymore. He had reached a stage in his intelligence where he was well beyond the stage in his life where he should be working at the bakery and Mr. Donner realizes this to. On page 104 Mr. Donner states "But you've changed into a very smart young man. And operating the dough mixer and delivering packages is no work for a smart young man." Even though Charlie being fired from the bakery seems to be a negative thing, it can actually be looked at positively because he can now move on to things that are more his level and it will increase his chances of success. There are many positives to Charlie's increasing knowledge which will lead him to having success in his life, but it is also a detriment to his social life because people who knew him are upset by his sudden changes and his increase. Therefore, Charlie being fired from the bakery was due to the fact that it upset a lot of people, and he didn't need to work there

One of my favorite quotes is “Man is the only creature who refuses to be what he is”. As the boys come onto my island, some of them decide to hold back or change themselves to gain a following. This applies to two boys in particular. Piggy, who believes that if he hides his intelligence he will be able to shield himself from shrewdness from the other boys. Also Jack who is under the impression that if he becomes aggressive and an “alfa” figure on the island he will gain a following from the other boys, eventually resulting in him being chief.…
