Charlie went from being “retarded” from the beginning to some kind of genius throughout most of the book. The change wasn't instant, it took a little bit of time but the change was drastic. On page 1 Charlie couldn’t spell progress, then a while after the surgery, on around page 50, he spelled every single word correctly. Charlie developed emotions he's never felt before, he never had any drive towards women in a loving way, he also didn’t feel much anger or hate towards anyone. I think that Charlie will still have somewhat of a memory of what happened. The same kind of change happened but in reverse, he went from the genius to the Charlie we knew at the beginning I don’t think he will go completely oblivious like he was before. He might keep having dreams and not notice that …show more content…
Charlie wasn’t harmed or treated unfairly, however they didn’t tell him the possible outcome of the experiment. The psychologists tried to benefit him and other people with the same disability. To the best of their ability, the psychologists took responsibility for the project. As far as the integrity part goes, they weren’t completely honest with him about whether or not it would work or the outcome of the situation, later on towards the end of the book they did admit they weren’t totally sure. Charlie wasn’t aware of what he was getting into, I don’t think the surgery was fair because charlie didn't know the possible danger. I think charlie was kind of treated like an animal because these doctors didn't know if it would work on a human or what the effects could be. The psychologists did not publicize what was going on. No one or thing was harmed or mistreated in the book. In my opinion, the surgery wasn't morally or ethically right because I believe we were all put on this earth as we are and we shouldn’t change ourselves based off of society. However, they did go about it fairly nicely and complied with the ethics of psychology

An intelligence altering operation, like the one performed on Charlie, is unethical for many reasons. It alters ones emotional state as well as having many controversial topics embedded in it. Some of these topics are what limits will be put on it such as who can get it, who decides what “normal” is, and what rights does the patient get? Before the surgery Charlie was a socialite who had an enjoyable time in whatever situation presented itself, you may say that ignorance is bliss in Charlie’s case. However, after the operation Charlie wasn’t capable of relating to others, had a difficult time communicating, and having feeling towards others.…
