To separate himself from other actors in the sennett films Chaplin had decided to play a single identifiable character in his first movie The Tramp, the story establishes Chaplin 's character as the unexpected hero when he saves the farmer 's daughter from a gang of robbers. This movie relied on pantomime and quirky movements to become the iconic figure of the silent film era. He than began to form The Tramp persona which had formed him a large fan base. “I want to see the return of decency and kindness,” Chaplin said around the time of the films release. “I 'm just a human being who wants to see this country a real democracy”. But Chaplin was not embraced to kindly with what he had said. His Liaisons had led to his rebuke by some women 's groups, which in turn had led him to being banned from entering some U.S states (biography.com).
Chaplin soon became a target of the right wing conservatives, and he was forced to be deported. In 1952 it was announced that Chaplin was sailing to Britain on vacation, and he could not return to the U.S till he could prove moral worth. Chaplin said his goodbye to the united states and had resided on a small farm in Corsier-Sur-Vevey, Switzerland.
Nearing the end of his life Chaplin had made one final visit to the united states In 1972 he was given an honorary academy award.In the early morning of December 25 1977 Charlie Chaplin had died in his home in switzerland. His wife and seven children were at his bedside. Chaplin 's body was stolen not long after he was buried by two men who had demanded a $400,000 for its return. The men were later caught and sent to jail and Chaplin 's body was returned 11 weeks
