There is also a similar pattern with each of them and their parents. With each of the children, such as Augustus Gloop, the first kid was extremely greedy and hungry all the time, his parents had no qualms about him being fat or overeating, but instead they fed him whatever he wanted and liked. Veruca Salt also had an issue with greed, but in terms of money and tangible items, and similarly her parents gave her everything she requested for with no objections. Violet Beaureguarde's was prideful about her accomplishments and her parents also, pushed her to go for what she wanted to do and win more. Mike Teavee, being obsessed with watching television known to be lazy and sloth-like, and his parents let him watch as much TV as he wants. They all have one thing in common; their parents do not condone their bad behaviors but continue to indulge them in it.
The book draws you in throughout the chapters even with the use of old plot patterns similar to other books, such as the underdog winning, rags to riches, bad guys never win and with a perfect ending for Charlie and his family.
