Sometime between 1701 and 1714, he secretly arrived in Port Royal, Jamaica during the Spanish Succession, a major European conflict. Suddenly, a Spanish fleet off the coast encountered a hurricane and lost all their gold and euros. During this time Charles and Captain Henry Jennings met, then together they went out to salvage what they could. That day they made 87,000 euros and that was the first thrill of Charles’ life as a pirate. By 1718 the King of England granted every pirate a pardon. Few weeks later, English Governor Woodes Rogers arrived in Royal Navy Frigate to take back his town. Charles’ crew immediately opened fire on Governor Rogers army, but it was clear to him they weren't going to win like that. As always, Charles quickly came up with an original plan to send a letter of surrender of his life as a pirate. All fighting then paused between them but that wasn’t the end of the war.
