Charles tiffany was born on February 15, 1812, in killingly Connecticut. He went to a district school in an academy in Plainfield Connecticut, when he turned 15 he helped manage a small store with his father who was the owner of a cotton manufacturing company. In 1837 Charles tiffany and his friend john B. Young went to New York with $1000 dollars that Charles father lent to him and opened a small gift shop selling jewelry and silverware. During this time of his life on November 30, 1839 Charles tiffany married john B. young’s sister. Together they had six children: Louis, Charles Jr., Annie, Louise, hennery, and Burnett. In the 1870’s Charles bought an $18000 gem what is known today as the “tiffany diamond”, it’s a yellow South African diamond that was 128.54 carats. Charles tiffany was known as the king of diamonds. The tiffany legacy was capitalized at more than $2 million dollars, and acknowledged as the most prominent jewelry company in North America.
