In the story “Charles” by Shirley Jackson, a careless reader could see through Laurie's lies before his parents saw through his lies, because his parents trust him and a careless reader would see through his lies, because of little things Laurie would say. Little things Laurie would say were that the whole class stayed after school with “Charles”. The teacher probably wouldn’t let them stay after school with him, because “Charles” was in trouble. The way Laurie acted disrespectfully towards his parents. He might also get in trouble at school, for his disrespectful behavior. His parents are also very lenient.
