Charles Richard Drew was an african american surgeon who first discovered methods for storing blood plasma and organized the first large scale blood bank in U.S. He was born on June 3, 1904 in washington D.C. and died on April 1, 1950 in North Carolina. Charles got his education from Columbia University, Amherst College and McGill University. He was the first african american to earn a degree from Columbia. Drew was a doctor, surgeon and educator.
