Charles Reed Meat-Eater

Improved Essays
Keenan, I agree with you and Charles. A veteran of 10 years and a ranking officer, Reed knew his actions were not acceptable. Indulging in the thefts for self-serving gain, Reed violated the trust of not only the public but every person who swears to uphold the law. His flagrant misuse of position and apparent lack of morals casts a dark shadow on all law enforcement officers. It is a shame that all must suffer for the actions of a few. I agree Charles that Reed would be considered a “meat -eater “ ( Bohm, 2012) based on the manner in which he committed his offenses.

Racial profiling can bring people down in both a financial and personal way which leads to more racial profiling because being affected in these ways encourages one to continue profiling others as they have anger building up which needs to be released. The Gates Case is an example of racial profiling. In the Gates Case, A black Harvard professor, Henry Louis Gates Jr., was arrested at his home finally coming home after a long stay in Harvard, by a white police officer, for attempting burglary. “The officer, rather than treat Professor Gates as a respected member of the Harvard faculty, probably expected more illegal behavior from him because he was a black man.…

Use of Deadly Force Police officers, or any type of law enforcement are here to protect us from any harm. Discretion is something that law enforcement uses and plays a major role in policing. Many people have their own opinion on whether police officers are doing their job the right way. Of course we all have our own views and what the “right way” is and how it differs from people to people. What I believe is that many police officers are not doing their job right due to the fact that there have been many cases in which it is demonstrated that police officers have taken advantage of their position and have used discretion in an inappropriate manner.…

For over three hundred years, law enforcement departments in the U.S. have been targeting male African Americans. In many cases, the officers of the law use dishonest tactics in order to make false arrests, but it does not stop there, they often murder innocent people. It is a common event nowadays; you can see it in mass media: “another African American got killed by the police.” It happens over, and over. Furthermore, those tactics are not random acts committed by officers alone; in several instances, these acts are protected by their superiors.…

Eric Garner then tried to explain to the law enforcement officers that he hasn’t done anything. As the officer tried to make an arrest with resistance from the victim, he then wrapped his arm around the 43 year old’s neck.…
